Playa D'en Bossa Tourist Information

By: Gary Marshall

Playa d'en Bossa is a popular family resort on the Balearic island of Ibiza. Situated close to both the airport and the capital, Ibiza Town, this low-rise holiday destination boasts a fine beach of pale sand and some excellent waterspouts facilities. The resort is also home to a couple of the island's best known clubs, Bora Bora and Space.

Playa d'en Bossa's beach is the longest on the island, measuring almost 2 miles in length, although it's also very narrow in places. Alongside the beach is a row of hotels, cafes, pubs and shops. A couple of miles to the south is the official nudist beach of Es Cavellet, popular with the gay community, especially on the southern section near the Chiringay beach bar. The northern part, however, usually attracts couples and families. Within walking distance of Es Cavellet is the fashionable beach at Les Salines, backed by sand dunes and pine trees. Along the beach are several trendy cafe-bars. Nude sunbathing is permitted in some places, especially around Sa Trinxa cafe. To the north of Playa d'en Bossa is the fairly ordinary beach at Figeuretes.

Although the resort might not match San Antonio for its nightlife, Playa d'en Bossa does nevertheless boast two famous venues which have become Ibiza institutions. Bora Bora is the biggest beachside bar on the island, often attracting thousands of revelers during the summer season. Just a short distance from Bora Bora is the Space nightclub, which opened back in 1989 and rose to prominence in the 1990's. The club has had a total revamp in recent years, with the addition of a 'chill-out' terrace on the upper level. Space has twice been voted the best nightclub in the world.

Playa d'en Bossa has a good selection of restaurants and cafes, but you are better off making the short trip into Ibiza Town or neighbouring Figueretes if you are looking for something special. The same applies to shopping - for some serious retail therapy the capital is your best bet. There is, however, an extremely popular Saturday morning market in the nearby village of Sant Jordi, less than a mile to the west. This car boot sale offers a range of items, including jewelry, books and furniture. Sant Jordi is an unremarkable place, with the exception of its church which was built like a fortress to protect it from pirate attacks.

Aguamar is the largest water park on Ibiza, with a great variety of slides and chutes, plus a large central pool. Highlights include the Super Toboggan and the Black Hole. There are also several cafes and picnic areas. Another popular family attraction in Playa d'en Bossa is the Bowling Centre. As well as a bowling alley, there's a mini-golf course, video games arcade, trampolines and a Rodeo-bull ride.

Playa d'en Bossa is located just 3 miles (5km) south of Ibiza Town (and just a couple of miles via the coastal path). There is a regular bus service between the resort and the capital.
